So I decided to start a blog. It is therapeutic and I figured that people were getting annoyed with my constant Facebook updates about diet and exercise. I also wanted to share my experiences with others who may be going through something similar.
It has been 58 days since I learned I had cancer. MELANOMA! My dermatologist was so calm on the phone that I wasn't even worried. When he told me I had to see a surgeon I figured that I would have a minor procedure and it would all be over. What I didn't know is that was only the beginning. I learned the following week that I had at least stage 2 melanoma and I needed surgery to remove the tumor and do a biopsy to see if the cancer had spread. That was the longest week of my life. I got the call... and the cancer had not spread. NED is what it is called. No evidence of disease. That is not the same as cancer free, because melanoma is so mysterious it can really do anything. I have stage 2A-2B melanoma what now? Well I have a type A personality and so I went on a rampage to do research and learn about my health.
My source, Crazy, Sexy Diet by Kris Carr. An amazing story and journey of this woman who is living with cancer. Now I don't know if this holistic approach will do anything to stop melanoma from coming back, but I can't just sit around and do nothing. I have every intention of being around for my amazing husband and wonderful baby boy Aidan (he just turned 7 months old).
I just completed the 21 day cleanse, and through this process also learned I have a gluten intolerance. So my journey begins...living life knowing cancer could return at any moment and doing all I can to take control over what I can truly control. In the meantime I might just have the side effect of being really happy and healthy.
One great side effect thus far, I am back into my pre-prego pants. :-)
More posts to come. I actually really enjoy writing, but I am out of practice. I hope this blog helps reignite that fire in me.
